Livestock Loss Board Grants
The LLB provides grants to Montana livestock producers to prevent or reduce depredations on livestock.
Previous grants have funded a variety of projects including range riding, carcass composting, fencing, fladry, and livestock guardian dog purchase/support.
Basic Grant Requirements:
- The project must protect cattle, domestic bison, swine, horses, mules, sheep, goats, llamas, or livestock guard dogs from depredations caused by wolves, grizzly bears, black bears or mountain lions.
- Total grant award may not exceed 10% of the value of livestock to be protected.
- Applicants must supply a 30% match, which can be cash, labor, equipment, or a combination thereof.
- Priority is given to applicants with a history of depredation by wolves, grizzly bears, black bears, or mountain lions.
- Grant recipients must provide a written report to the LLB within 12 months of receiving an award.
Current Grants Available:
Applications for the next award cycle are due November 4, 2026.
Grants will be awarded at the LLB meeting on December 9, 2026.
