The Dept of Livestock Online Brand Book is in real-time and is continuously updated as brands are issued and transferred.  Currently, there are more than 51,000 registered Montana Livestock Brands maintained by the Brands Enforcement Division Brand Office.

Helpful hints when using the Online Brand Book:

• Be patient. The system must read the information associated with each brand to give you the results you are looking for.
• The Online Brand Book is set to populate 50 Brands to a page
• If searching by one filter, select the filter and then select Apply
• If searching by multiple filters, select a filter in each search field and then select Apply All which is located in the upper right corner.

Use the footer at the bottom of the page to:

• Scroll from one page to the next
• Scroll to a specific page
• Print the page you are currently viewing

The Dept of Livestock issues brands in accordance with MCA 81-3-103 which requires that brands are “distinguishable with reasonable certainty from all other marks and brands.”

The information provided in the online brand book is provided under the following conditions:

• Under Montana law, Section 2-6-108 MCA, if we provide you with a document including private addresses, you may not use it as a mailing list. If you do so, you may be guilty of a misdemeanor.
• The online Brand Book will not be considered by the department or a court of law as an official brand book or document.
• The following statement must be included prominently with any use of the book/information provided to you: This publication/information is not a publication of the State of Montana. It may not be used for official Department of Livestock business or for brand verification in a court of law.  The Department of Livestock is not responsible for errors herein.
