Livestock Loss Board
The mission of the Livestock Loss Board is to help support Montana Livestock communities by reducing the economic impacts of wolves, grizzly bears, black bears, and mountain lions on individual producers by reimbursing confirmed and probable wolf, grizzly bear, black bears and mountain lion caused losses and helping to reduce their losses by approving projects and funding programs that will discourage wolves, grizzly bears, black bears and mountain lions from killing livestock.
The LLB strives to achieve this mission through two primary functions:
- Loss Reimbursement: When livestock are killed by wolves, grizzly bears, black bears or mountain lions, the LLB may reimburse the livestock owner for the fair market value of their animal(s).
- Loss Prevention Grants: The LLB provides grants to Montana livestock producers to prevent or reduce depredations on livestock.
