Rinderpest is a highly fatal viral disease of domestic cattle, buffalo and yak. It also affects sheep, goats and some breeds of pigs and a large variety of wildlife species.

The virus has been widely distributed throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and West Asia. However, the virus has not become established in either the Americas or Australia/New Zealand.

ReportRinderpest is a reportable foreign animal disease. Report any confirmed or suspected case to: MT State Veterinarian 406-444-2043 and MT USDA APHIS Veterinary Services 406-449-2220.
