Informational Meeting on Equine Herpes Virus Scheduled in Bozeman
The Montana Department of Livestock will host an informational public meeting on Thursday June 16, 6-8 p.m. at Building #1 of the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. Montana Department of Livestock personnel will be on hand to discuss and answer questions about EHV-1.
“This is a disease that has a lot of unknowns associated with it and is of great concern to horse owners,” said Dr. Tahnee Szymanski, MDOL staff veterinarian. “It will be an opportunity for equine owners in the area to learn more about EHV-1 and what this positive case means.”
On Saturday, MDOL reported the state’s first case of EHV-1. The horse, a 15-year-old gelding, is non-clinical (i.e., otherwise healthy) and has been isolated since returning from an event in Ogden, Utah, where the current multi-state outbreak of EHV-1 originated.
