Brucellosis Action Plan meeting set for Gallatin County
Livestock producers in Gallatin County will get an opportunity to review the Montana Department of Livestock's (MDOL) brucellosis action plan at the Gallatin Beef Producers annual educational luncheon and business meeting on January 13.
The plan, which was developed by MDOL and a work group that included the Montana Stockgrowers Association, Montana Cattlemen's Association and Montana Farm Bureau Federation, received preliminary approval from the Board of Livestock at its November meeting and will guide the state's efforts to regain Brucellosis Class Free Status. The plan can be viewed or downloaded and printed from MDOL's web site at http://liv.mt.gov/liv/Brucellosis/Revised%20BAP_112008.pdf.
"We want to make sure producers know exactly what the (brucellosis action) plan means for their operations," said state veterinarian Dr. Marty Zaluski. "The meetings will give producers a chance to discuss the plan and ask any questions they might have."
The meeting will be held at Headwaters Livestock in Three Forks, starting with a roast beef dinner at 11:45 a.m. Cost for lunch is $15 and can be paid at the meeting. Other speakers and topics will include updates from the Gallatin County Commissioners and Montana Stockgrowers Association.
RSVPs by no later than January 9 for the meeting are requested. To obtain additional information or RSVP, contact the Gallatin County Extension Office at 406/388-3213.
Locations and dates for informational meetings about the brucellosis action plan in other parts of the state are pending and will be announced as soon as possible.
