LIVESTOCK BRANDS
Printable copies for a brand application are available below. We suggest that you submit brands containing two letters and/or numbers, bars, quartercircles, or slashes. Montana Department of Livestock has about 60,000 recorded brands. The filing fee is $100.00.
The Board of Livestock policy states that single letters/figures, monograms, one character/symbol, or inverted letter/number brands cannot be recorded. Brands containing the letters "I, G, Q or number 1" are no longer issued. There are no "CC or JJ" combinations left on the prime positions.
If you have no preference for a brand, please send a list of ideas, location of brand on livestock, and counties where you will range in Montana.
When recording a brand to a company, corporation, partnership, etc., please furnish a list of officers and people authorized to sign bills of sale when selling livestock. If there is more than one owner, the word "and" means all persons sign bills of sale while "or" means any one person may sign. Do not use "and/or". If a brand is to be held in Joint Tenants, you must signify it by putting a "JT" behind the names.
Your new brand must be rerecorded during the year of 2011. It is good on the positions designated throughout the State.

Ornamental Brands
Ornamental brands are for decorative purposes only.
If the brand you request is already recorded, it cannot be issued to you. Therefore, you may remit several choices to have a better chance of selecting a brand that is available. A fee of $100.00 is required with the application.
APPLICATION OF THIS ORNAMENTAL BRAND TO ANY TYPE OF LIVESTOCK OR GAME FARM ANIMAL IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
Be sure to read and complete this form in its entirety (ie: name, mailing address, signature to be notarized).
The brand will be in good standing through the year 2011 when it must be re-recorded as provided by 81.3.104 MCA
