Annual Equine Import Permits
Since April 25, 1978, Montana's import regulations state that a permit is required on all classes of livestock, including horses. Due to the fact that a number of owners frequently travel in and out of Montana for shows, rodeos, races, etc., the department has created an Annual Equine Import Permit. This annual permit will replace the regular 10-day import permit and needs only to be renewed once a year. The annual import permit must accompany the horse(s) at all times when in transit moving into Montana. Interstate movement also requires a Veterinary Inspection Certificate.
In order to be eligible for an annual import permit, each horse must have a Lifetime Brand Inspection Certificate.
To apply for an annual Import Permit, please fill out this application and return it to our office. We will then send you an Import Permit which will only be valid until December 31 of the year in which it was issued.
