Information about Montana's import requirements for various animals.


Camelids and Water Buffalo:

Alpacas (Lama pacos)
Camels (Camelus dromedarius), (Camelus bactrianus)
Guanacos (Lama Guanicoe)
Llamas (Lama glama)
Vicunas (Vicuña Vicugna)
Water Buffalo (Bubalus arnee)

Mandatory General Requirements
Mandatory Specific Tests
  • Tuberculosis (TB) Test:
    • All ages must have negative axillary TB test not more than 60 days prior to entry. Required type of TB test is axillary TB test.
    • Modified Accredited States (Michigan) - Camelids originating from Modified Accredited States must have two negative TB tests 90 to 120 days apart. The second TB test must be within 60 days of shipment to Montana.
  • Brucellosis Test:
    • Test all ages and sexes within 30 days of entry.
    • No test for neutered animals.
  • No tests required on Nursing young with test negative mothers.
