Vaccination Requirements
Vaccination requirements are specific to those animals imported into the Montana Designated Surveillance Area (DSA). Animals destined for areas of Montana outside of the DSA are not required to be vaccinates.
Cows (>12 months of age)
- Official Calfhood Vaccinate, OR
- Official Adult Vaccinate with a negative brucellosis test within 30 days of entry.
Heifers
- Less than 4 months of age, with dams
- OCV not required.
- Less than 4 months of age, without dams
- Quarantine for vaccination (within 6 months)
- Consignee contact info
- Name of veterinarian designated to administer vaccination or spay heifers
- Veterinarian’s statement on the CVI “Heifer calves are quarantined until eligible for vaccination. Not to be resold.”
- Official individual identification listed on CVI
- Not allowed to go to market until OCV completed.
- Quarantine for vaccination (within 6 months)
- 4 to 12 months of age
- OCV, OR
- Quarantined for vaccination upon arrival (within 30 days), OR
- Quarantined for spay upon arrival (within 30 days).
- Official individual identification listed on CVI.
- Spayed heifers greater than 1 month of age
- Veterinarian’s statement on the CVI noting that “Heifers are spayed."
Testing Requirements
Brucellosis – Negative test required on all animals within 30 days prior to entry except on nursing young with test negative dams or neutered animals.
Tuberculosis (TB)
- No TB test from accredited tuberculosis free state or animals less than 6 months with negative dam.
- Animals originating from a TB Modified Accredited Advanced State or areas:
- Sexually intact animals 2 months of age and older
- One negative TB test within 60 days prior to importation, OR
- Originate from USDA-APHIS-VS Accredited TB-Free herd, OR
- Originate from a herd which has a negative whole herd test within 6 months prior to importation and the individual animals in the shipment were included in the whole herd test.
- Sexually intact animals 2 months of age and older
- Tuberculosis Modified Accredited States or areas:
- Sexually intact animals 2 months of age and older :
- Two negative TB tests 60-120 days apart and the second test within 60 days prior to importation; OR
- One negative TB test within 60 days prior to importation and must originate directly from a herd that has a negative whole herd test within 12 months of movement and the individual animals in the shipment were included in that whole herd test; OR
- One negative TB test within 60 days prior to importation and must originate directly from a USDA-APHIS-VS Accredited TB-Free herd (or Canadian equivalent). The herd accreditation number and date of whole herd test must be included on the CVI and the individual animals being shipped were included in that whole herd test

Identification Requirements
Official individual identification (USDA eartag, registration tattoo, or microchip) is required and must be listed on the CVI.
