Contagious Equine Metritis
Contagious equine metritis (CEM) is a transmissible, exotic, venereal disease of horses. Thoroughbred horses tend to be more severely affected than other horse breeds. There is not evidence that CEM affects people.
The disease is highly contagious. Fortunately, the disease has not become established in the United States.
Contagious Equine Metritis is a reportable animal disease. Report any confirmed or suspected case to: MT State Veterinarian 406-444-2043 and MT USDA APHIS Veterinary Services 406-449-2220.
